An Open Letter To The Body
Safe Access
Dear Body,
I’m sorry it took me this long.
To love you.
To even look at you without wanting to flinch.
We’ve been through too many silent wars together,
Where the world aimed,
And I blamed you for bleeding.
You weren’t always home.
You felt borrowed.
Like someone else’s story stitched onto mine.
But damn, you stayed.
You stayed when I couldn’t.
You held me on the nights I wanted to vanish.
You kept me alive long enough to become someone,
who can write this letter.
And today, I want to say…
Thank you!
Not the performative kind.
But the kind you whisper after surgery.
The kind that aches a little.
I may never call you perfect.
But you are mine.
And maybe, just maybe,
That’s enough for now.
With love,
Someone still learning
