Yours, Queerly : An Open Letter Campaign
Letters have been at the heart of queer and trans history, expression and reflection.
For generations, LGBTQ+ people used the art of letter writing to find each other, build community, and offer support – especially when distance and social stigma made physical connection impossible. From secret notes exchanged by lovers to the bold reflections that openly challenged oppression, letters have always borne witness to our raw truths

In the 90s, Sakhi Postbox, started by Sakhi, one of India’s first explicitly lesbian organizations, and thousands of letters received by Counsel Club, one of India’s earliest queer support groups, became lifelines for LGBTQ+ communities in India.
These letters dissolved isolation, provided comfort and created networks of belonging long before the internet

Letters bore witness to our fears and dreams, joys and heartbreaks, hopes and comfort. They captured the vulnerable and intimate glimpses into the lives of queer and trans people.
Join ‘Yours, Queerly: The Open Letter Campaign’
We invite you to be a part of a community sourced archive of unapologetic, unfiltered queer and trans voices and lived experience. Let’s build our collective narrative of resilience, resistance, hope and, most importantly, of love
✉️ Your letter could be…
- A love note (to a partner, a friend, your future or younger self)
- A gratitude note (to those who’ve held space for you)
- A message to society (your demands, what you wish the world understood)
- A confession of fear, joy, or hope
- A letter to the past or future (what you’ve learned, what you dream of)
Your letters will not only be valuable accounts of what it means to be queer-trans in the world today but also foster a more nuanced and first-hand account of our lives including not just its struggles, but also the joy and resilience that define our queer-trans communities.
Write your letter. Share your story.
